The spot at the Liam Whaley Pro Center is located at Valdevaqueros Beach, about 10 km northwest of Tarifa. This section, known as Tumbao, features a wide sandy bay with the iconic Punta Paloma dune in the background. It is one of Europe’s most legendary kitesurfing locations, known for steady winds and plenty of space on the water. Conditions: Levante (easterly wind) blows strong and offshore – great for advanced kiters but challenging. Poniente (westerly wind) is sideshore/onshore and usually moderate, making it perfect for long sessions and progressing riders. Water conditions vary from choppy (Levante) to relatively smooth (Poniente). Suitability: Excellent for kitesurfing, wingfoiling, and windsurfing; best for riders with some prior experience due to strong winds. Facilities: The Liam Whaley Pro Center offers rentals, lessons, and rescue services. The beach has a sporty, international vibe with beach bars and restaurants within walking distance.
At the Tumbao section of Valdevaqueros Beach, right next to the Liam Whaley Pro Center, there is a large sandy car park directly behind the beach. Access is easy via the N-340 at kilometre 76. During peak season, it fills up quickly during the day, so it’s best to arrive early. Alternatively, you can park along the access road.
