Description

Dolphin Beach is located in Bloubergstrand, just north of Cape Town’s city centre. This long sandy beach is one of Cape Town’s most iconic kiteboarding spots, attracting riders daily. It is especially popular thanks to its steady southeasterly winds from October to March and its wide open water space. Wind conditions: Reliable, typically 20–40 knots from SE to S, strongest between December and February. Waves: Small to medium swell (1–3 m), ideal for freestyle, wave riding and downwind runs. Level: Suitable for beginners through pros – the wide beach allows safe launching and plenty of room. Community: A vibrant hub with kite schools, camps and the Dolphin Beach Hotel right on the spot.

Parking Information

At Dolphin Beach, there are several public car parks directly behind the dunes along Otto du Plessis Drive (M14). These paved parking areas are only a short walk from the beach. Additional spaces are available at the Dolphin Beach Hotel, which sits right at the spot. Parking is generally free of charge, though it can fill up quickly on windy kite days or during peak season.
