Melkbosstrand is located about 10–15 km north of Cape Town and is a well-known kite and surf spot with a wide sandy beach and open Atlantic conditions. The spot is mainly about wave riding, ideal for wave kitesurfing and surfing. The best winds blow from south to southwest (side-/side-onshore), with the prime season running from October to March. The water can be choppy, and with swell there is solid shore break and surfable waves. The beach is spacious and sandy, making launching easy, though the wind at the shore can be gusty. The spot is shared by kiters, surfers and windsurfers.
At Duynefontein there is no official parking lot. Instead, visitors park along the street edge of Strand Road or on an unmarked sandy/gravel area behind the beach. It’s an informal parking setup without marked spaces and can fill up quickly during peak times. Arrive early and be mindful of limited capacity.
